About this course
Basic Penetrant Testing Techniques introduces learners to one of the most widely used non-destructive testing (NDT) methods for detecting surface-breaking defects in metal components. This course provides foundational knowledge and hands-on understanding of how to conduct visible dye penetrant tests safely and accurately in engineering, manufacturing, and maintenance settings.
Learners will explore the full inspection process including surface preparation, application of penetrant, dwell time, developer use, and interpretation of indications. The course also highlights safety, cleaning procedures, and the importance of following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality standards.
What You Will Learn:
• Understand the principles of penetrant testing and how it reveals surface defects
• Identify suitable materials and surfaces for penetrant testing
• Prepare and clean surfaces before and after testing
• Apply penetrant, developer, and interpret results
• Follow correct timing, safety procedures, and disposal practices
• Use appropriate PPE and work in compliance with WHS guidelines
