Routine Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Operations
in Metal Fabrication & WeldingAbout this course
This course introduces learners to the fundamental skills and knowledge required to perform routine Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), also known as TIG welding. Designed for beginners and entry-level fabricators, the course covers the safe setup and operation of GTAW equipment, proper joint preparation, electrode selection, and welding techniques on a variety of materials. Students will gain confidence in producing quality welds to routine specifications while following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work health and safety (WHS) guidelines.
What You Will Learn:
• Understand the principles and applications of GTAW in metal fabrication
• Identify job requirements and interpret welding symbols from drawings
• Select appropriate PPE and apply WHS practices for TIG welding
• Set up GTAW equipment, including torch, shielding gas, and electrodes
• Prepare and clean materials for welding
• Perform routine welds on materials such as stainless steel and aluminium
• Inspect completed welds for basic quality and conformance
